The Lagos State Government has backed the September 22, 2014 resumption date for public and private schools announced by the Federal Government.
The Federal Government had earlier fixed October 13 as the resumption date for nursery, primary and secondary schools for the 2014/2015 session, as part of measures to contain the spread of Ebola virus, which was imported into Nigeria by late Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer.

However, the Federal Government had announced September 22 as the new resumption date after a national consultation on efforts to contain the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country was conveyed.
The new date had generated hues and cries with many arguing for and against the development.
But the state government, in a statement on Sunday by Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola on Information and Strategy, Lateef Raji, clarified that the new date was a right decision.
Raji stressed that inasmuch as the resumption date announced by the Federal Government was advisory, as education is a concurrent matter to be regulated by the respective federal and states authorities, but the Lagos State Government viewed the new date as eminently justifiable.
The state government added that at the moment, there was no known carrier of EVD in the state, and that the last individual suspected to have been exposed to the virus would be discharged from observation on September 18, 2014, if he tests negative for the virus.
The government directed all public and private educational institutions in the state to accordingly comply with the directive by the Federal Government.
According to the statement, the state government added that considering the current situation report, it was clear that the risk of infection with EVD in Lagos State had been significantly reduced.HURRAY! STUDENTS WELCOME BACK  TO SCHOOL WISH YOU ALL AN EBOLA FREE SESSION.
